Venmo Bank Transfer Pending? How Long It Takes
A pending Venmo bank transfer is different from a pending payment sent to another person.
Here, you have money in your Venmo account and are attempting to move it to your own linked bank account or eligible debit card.
How Long Does a Venmo Bank Transfer Take?
| Transfer Type | Typical Timing | Important Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Instant Transfer | Typically within 30 minutes | Requires an eligible U.S. bank account or eligible debit card and carries a fee. |
| Standard Transfer | Typically within 1 business day; may take up to 3 business days | Uses ACH. Weekends and U.S. bank holidays aren’t included in the processing timeframe. |
| Transfer Under Review | Can take longer | Venmo says transfers are reviewed and may be delayed, declined, frozen or otherwise affected. |
1. Is Your Instant Venmo Transfer Pending?
Venmo says an Instant Transfer to an eligible bank account or debit card typically arrives within 30 minutes.
If the transfer still shows Pending, Venmo recommends waiting 30 minutes before checking the receiving bank account statement.
Instant transfers don’t arrive as ordinary ACH direct deposits. Venmo says they may appear as an original credit transaction (OCT) or a real-time payment.
2. Is Your Standard Venmo Transfer Pending?
Standard transfers use the Automated Clearing House, or ACH.
Venmo says these transfers typically complete within one business day but can take up to three business days to reach your bank in some circumstances.
You can check the estimated arrival date in your personal Venmo transaction feed.
3. What Time Did You Start the Transfer?
The time you initiate a Standard transfer can affect when processing begins.
Venmo currently says Standard transfers started after 7 p.m. Eastern Time on a weekday won’t begin processing until the next business day.
A transfer initiated during a weekend or U.S. bank holiday also starts processing on the next business day.
| When Transfer Was Started | What to Expect |
|---|---|
| Weekday before processing cutoff | Normal Standard transfer timeline can begin. |
| After 7 p.m. ET on a weekday | Processing begins the next business day. |
| Weekend | Processing begins on the next business day. |
| U.S. bank holiday | Processing begins on the next business day. |

Why Is My Transfer Still Pending?
Choose what you’re seeing. This tool cannot access your Venmo or bank account.
4. Why Is My Venmo Transfer Under Review?
Venmo says transfers are reviewed as part of its processes and may sometimes need additional time for internal review.
A review can result in a transfer being delayed, declined, or in some cases funds being frozen or removed from the Venmo account.
This means a transfer that takes longer than the normal timing isn’t automatically proof that the bank has lost it.
5. Can You Cancel a Pending Standard Transfer?
Venmo’s current policy provides an important option that many users may not know about.
After initiating a Standard transfer, Venmo says there is a one-hour window in which you may be able to cancel it or change it to an Instant transfer.
In the Venmo app:
- Open the Me tab.
- Open the Pending bank transfer.
- Look for Cancel it or Get it faster.
Venmo says these options are available in the app rather than on the web.
6. Venmo Says Completed but Money Isn’t in My Bank
If Venmo shows the transfer as Completed, start with the receiving bank account rather than initiating another transfer.
For an Instant Transfer
Look for an original credit transaction or real-time payment. Venmo says Instant transfers aren’t ordinary ACH/direct deposits.
For a Standard Transfer
Venmo says Standard transfers arrive as ACH deposits and may appear with the description:
VENMO-0 CASHOUT
Venmo also warns that a Standard transfer may be back-dated by up to two days on the bank statement. Therefore, check surrounding statement dates instead of looking only at the expected arrival date.
7. What If Three Business Days Have Passed?
For a Standard transfer, Venmo recommends checking the bank statement carefully after three full business days have passed.
If the transfer is still missing, one possibility is that the bank information was entered incorrectly or the receiving bank did not accept the transfer.
Verify the linked bank information before attempting another transfer.
8. Why Can’t I Make an Instant Transfer?
Not every bank account or debit card supports Venmo Instant Transfer.
Venmo says Instant transfers work only with eligible U.S. bank accounts and participating Visa, Mastercard or Discover debit cards.
If your preferred account or card can’t be selected for Instant Transfer, the institution may not participate in the necessary instant-transfer service.
In that situation, a Standard transfer may still be available.
9. Can Venmo Decline a Bank Transfer?
Yes. A transfer can be declined rather than merely delayed.
Venmo says its automated review process can decline transfer attempts. Other potential problems include:
- An account restriction
- An ineligible debit card or bank account
- Bank information that doesn’t match the bank’s records
- Automated security review
A transfer that explicitly says Declined should therefore not be treated as if it were simply waiting for the normal processing window.
10. Instant vs Standard Venmo Transfer
| Feature | Instant | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Typical arrival | Within about 30 minutes | Usually within 1 business day; up to 3 business days in some circumstances |
| Destination | Eligible U.S. bank account or eligible debit card | Verified checking account |
| Fee | Fee applies | Free |
| Weekend/holiday processing | Available 24/7, though transfers can still be affected by reviews or service issues | Weekends and U.S. bank holidays aren’t included in processing time |
| Network | Instant-transfer network / real-time payment mechanisms | ACH |

What Should You Do Before Transferring Again?
Determine whether Venmo says Pending, Completed or Declined.
The expected timing is very different.
Verify the last four digits of the bank account or card.
For Standard transfers, don’t count weekends or U.S. bank holidays.
For Standard transfers, look for VENMO-0 CASHOUT and surrounding dates.
Bottom Line
If your Venmo bank transfer is pending, first identify whether it is Instant or Standard.
An Instant Transfer typically arrives within about 30 minutes. A Standard ACH transfer typically completes within one business day but can take up to three business days in some circumstances.
If Venmo says the transfer is Completed but you can’t find the money, check the receiving bank statement and destination before transferring again. For a Standard transfer, remember that the transaction can appear under VENMO-0 CASHOUT and may be dated differently from the date you expected.
